Continuous Data Protection
Continuous data protection (CDP), also
called continuous backup, refers to a
backup system which automatically saves
data every time it is changed. Basically,
every version of all data is saved. This
allows an IT administrator or an end user to
restore data back to any specific point in
time in its history.
CDP is different from a traditional
backup tool, which can only restore to
the point when the backup was taken. Since
CDP saves every change, every transaction
that ever takes place in an enterprise, you
can restore to a clean version of a document
before a virus infected the file, no matter
how long it takes to discover the
corruption.
