Image Backup
An Image Backup is a file containing a
complete digital copy (an image) of
all the information contained in a file,
folder, data, database, system or server.
Using backup software, you create a
digital file, a snapshot of a moment in
time, which contains all of the information
that was on the original source at the point
in which you created the image.
This image backup can be used to retrieve
your information in the event of some sort
of catastrophic failure, such as a PC/server
crash or other disaster. For this reason,
your image backup should be stored in a safe
place. In the event of a disaster, your
image can be used to access the information
which isn’t available on the original.
In order to perform a complete image backup,
you should use software designed to
duplicate all of the information on your
server or PC. Simply copying and pasting the
information to a new location will not save
your system information, applications and
settings, which you will need to access the
data files in the event of a disaster.
