No one wants to end up paying more than they have to on something. That’s why I’ve compiled a list of tips that can help MSPs manage their billing and make sure they aren’t charged for a license when they shouldn’t be.
Deactivate BEFORE the 15th
My first tip will help you avoid being billed an extra month. StorageCraft MSP billing is set up to charge for the entire month’s use if a license is active for more than 14 days. If you make sure a license is deactivated before the 15th of the month, you won’t get charged for that month’s use. Some that deactivate on the 15th or 16th will still be charged for the month, but had they deactivated a few days earlier, they wouldn’t have had to pay for a month they don’t need.
Take advantage of the activation report & billing report
These reports can be found under the reports tab in the MSP portal and will tell you if a license is still active and if you are going to be charged for a license on a particular month. I suggest always double-checking the report after you’ve deactivated a license to make sure that it has registered in the StorageCraft system. There are times when you might think that the license has been deactivated when it hasn’t, so it’s always better to be safe than sorry.
Know how to deactivate a legacy MSP license vs. a new MSP license
In your activation report you might see that you have two types of MSP licenses, Legacy and MSP. (If you are a newer partner, you probably won’t see this.) Legacy licenses need to be deactivated by opening up ShadowProtect on the machine it’s installed on and then click on help > Product Activation > Deactivate. If you just uninstall the product, it will NOT deactivate and you will continue to be billed for the license.
To deactivate the newer MSP licenses you will deactivate in the MSP portal. Please be aware that if you uninstall the product before it has time to notify our server of deactivation, the license will not deactivate for 30 days. To avoid this from happening you can force the license to notify our server or wait 24 hours after you deactivate before you uninstall the product.
