Open File Backup
The Challenge
A backup must be consistent. For years companies have struggled to maintain a reliable backup due to having open files on the disk at the time the backup takes place. During the backup, applications and data changes need to be captured while the backup occurs. The backup must occur without interrupting systems, applications and data access.
The SolutionStorageCraft™ solutions implement copy-on-write technology for the benefit of backup applications. When an application opens a file, other applications are still allowed to write to the file. To avoid a mix of old and new data in the application, the data being overwritten is copied to another location on disk. If another application requests this data, the read is managed by StorageCraft technology.
With StorageCraft solutions, there is no need to close applications or lock out users during a backup. Run your backup at anytime — all without interruption to your systems or business operations.
