Re: Cannot connect to the ImageManager Agent...

Hello Jay,

For the ImageManager Agent you are attempting to connect to local to you please try localhost instead of the IP Address.

If it is not local, are there any firewalls on your side or the end you are trying to reach?

Thanks!

Same issue here. No firewalls.

Re: Cannot connect to the ImageManager Agent...

Can you check to see if the ShadowProtect ImageManager Service is enabled and running? Can you restart the service?

Re: Cannot connect to the ImageManager Agent...

Holly smoke Batman! That fixed my problem too! :)

Now why doesn't the ImageManager program START the service and/or give a meaningful error message????

Re: Cannot connect to the ImageManager Agent...

Meaningful error message? What is that?

Please don't take the above seriously. Part of the issue with error messages is that you don't always know that you need one until something breaks. I'll put in a word to development on the issue and see what can be done in future releases.

Re: Cannot connect to the ImageManager Agent...

Another issue with error messages is that many are returned from Windows API calls.  In this particular case it does not say the service is not running but it does say the there is no response from the connection request. In most cases it would be difficult to interpret the system errors and replace them with a more precise error message.

Re: Cannot connect to the ImageManager Agent...

Can't the ImageManager program check to see if the service is running? And if not, then attempt to start it?

Re: Cannot connect to the ImageManager Agent...

I am not aware of a way to detect a service is not running and start it using .NET Remoting which the ImageManager client uses to connect.  We are using DCOM in ShadowProtect which does allow starting the service if it is not running.

Re: Cannot connect to the ImageManager Agent...

Well, in that case, perhaps the error message (or the Help) could mention for the user to check the Service.

Anyway, I've said enough and don't wish to keep going on about this.

Have a great day, guys!

Well, my system just can't start the Shadow Protect Service! I get the following:

This is really distressing! I need help on fixing this as at the moment Shadow Protect is Shadow No-Protect!

HELP.

Re: Cannot connect to the ImageManager Agent...

Was ShadowProtect installed and working ok before you encountered problems starting the service?
If it was then:
- Check the Windows Event logs for errors and warnings
- Check your AV/firewall product to see if anything is blocking the service (Comodo, McAfee, TrendMicro etc.)
- Were any services that ShadowProtect depend on (such as RPC) turned off or unable to start

If this is a new install and ShadowProtect service fails to start from the get-go
If it was then:
- Make sure the install did not fail. Perform a repair install or uninstall and re-install
- Make sure your AV/firewall is not blocking the install
