Imagemanger, IFTP and folder queues - verification of good backups

Hello,

We have shadow protect backing up locally via continues incrementals, then image manager managing that folder and iftping to an offsite server.

I have a couple of questions for which I need to propose this senerio (numbers are real):

our local backup queue shows 473 files,  image manager shows 198 queued files,   but the directory on the offisite server shows 1106 files.

our goal is to verify that IFTP is backing up everything it is supposed to be.

my questions:

1) why do none of the files numbers match up?

2)  is it possible to break the chain in continous incrementals forcing starting over with a new full and having old stale backups?

3) what is the relationship of the queued files versus knowing how many its backed up verses whats on the offsite storage?

We want to make sure we know that we are getting all of our local files offsited. I've sometimes seen it where the local file storage has (as an example) about 300 files and the queued in image manager is 138 and the offsite destination has something like 143.  but the numbers don't add up to 300

Any help on making sense of this or something to look for is greatly appreciated.

What version of ImageManager are you using?

How many intra-daily backups are generating locally within 24 hours?

What ImageManager agent settings do you have configured at the local and off-site locations?

Are there any reported verification or consolidation problems at either location?

Unless you have clean data and identical retention settings at each end, then it's unlikely you'll anything near a matching number of files.

Does your FTP Server show data being transferred? If so, at what speed? How much data is there left to process?

You might want to try deleting and re-creating the existing iFTP replication job if you think there's a replication problem.

Image manager

Hello lumacor,

Thanks for your response, I will try to answer your questions here:

What version of ImageManager are you using?

 Version 7

How many intra-daily backups are generating locally within 24 hours?

If I understand the question correctly, then Shadow Protect is typically doing only one incremental backup per day.

What ImageManager agent settings do you have configured at the local and off-site locations?

There is no image manager at the offsite location, it is a unix server,  Agent settings on the local side are typically the default.

 - Run image manager processing work each day at 12am

- Performance is 50%, no throttle, concurrent processing is set to 1 each

- Global retention is setup to autmatically clean up backup image files in all managed folders

--- keep intra-daily image files for 7 days

--- keep consolidated daily image files (-cd) for 15 days

--- Keep consolidated weekly image files (-cw) for at least 90 days

--- cleanup consolidated monthly image files (-cm) for 5 months

- the Location tab just has our iftp location

Are there any reported verification or consolidation problems at either location?

I haven't checked the log files specifically, but most of the problems come with IFTP transfer I believe

Unless you have clean data and identical retention settings at each end, then it's unlikely you'll anything near a matching number of files.

Does your FTP Server show data being transferred? If so, at what speed? How much data is there left to process?

Yes, there are files transfered to the FTP settings. How munch data left is dependant on the server, I assume this is the amount of queued files?

You might want to try deleting and re-creating the existing iFTP replication job if you think there's a replication problem.

We've done this many times before.

After answering this questions and doing a bit of research of the what the letters mean after the dash, and no image manager at the destination end. it seems like we need to configure something differently. However, I'm a bit confused, on the global retention tab, then before it deletes the daily/week/monthly, it will have collapsed it first into the previous image?
