Remote Control Programs and ShadowProtect

I understand that certain remote control programs like Logmein may have issues with ShadowProtect. Has this been resolved in current server version 3.2? If not, does the next version address this problem?

I use Dameware as the Primary Remote Control program for my servers. I also set the ShadowProtect processor utilization at about 25%. (I just don't want to overload the servers).

I have issues with SP crashing the servers and I feel this maybe the cause.

Maybe increasing SP processor utilization may resolve the issue? Thoughts? Best Practices?

Re: Remote Control Programs and ShadowProtect

I'm not aware of any outstanding compatibility issues with remote control programs.  There was a LogMeIn issue a long time ago, but as far as I know it was fixed.  I'm haven't used Dameware, but is there any evidence that it is related to the crashes?  Do the crashes coincide with remote control attempts while backups are running?  Any error messages or warnings in system or application event logs?  do the crashes generate dump files?

Re: Remote Control Programs and ShadowProtect

Dameware works fine and never a problem. I think there may be an issue with Dameware (or other Remote Control programs) and ShadowProtect running at the same time.

Nope, no error messages. Just a complete I/O crash. No BSOD or Dump. Can someone check with Storage Craft programmers to confirm that the 3.2 should not be acting up when a remote control program is in use?

Re: Remote Control Programs and ShadowProtect

we use SP on 15-20 servers with dameware, not a single issue. on some older servers, we use pcanywhere and a few flavors of vnc also without problems. also, i have never noticed any performance impact on any server while SP is backing up with or without remote access software installed
