Agent-Based Backup Systems

In an agent-based backup, the work is done by the agent on the source systems, which sends the backup data to a predefined destination such as a BDR. The destination is a passive backup data repository.

Advantages of Agents

  • Fast
  • Reliable backups using accepted kernel interface techniques
  • Reduce the risk of backup failure due to problems with a centralized host or management controller

Disadvantages of Agents

  • Must install software on each source system that you want to protect
  • Must configure and manage each agent
